Motorola Solutions to take over development and operations of the Norwegian nationwide TETRA network Nødnett Project

Motorola Solutions Inc. today announced that they have signed an agreement to take over the responsibility for the further roll out, implementation and operation of the Norwegian nationwide TETRA network Nødnett Project from Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN).

A positive change

- Mission critical radio solutions are a core area for Motorola, and we are therefore pleased that Motorola’s role in the project is being expanded, says director Tor Helge Lyngstøl in The Directorate for Emergency Communication (DNK). Motorola has been a key supplier of the core technology in the Nødnett Project from day one. This change of contractor therefore entails few changes for the Norwegian government.

In December 2006 the Norwegian government signed a contract with Siemens AS for delivery of Nødnett, based on technology from Motorola. Shortly after signing the contract Nokia and Siemens merged their network divisions and formed the company NSN.
NSN has over some time expressed that Nødnett is not a part of the company’s core business area.

Focus on progress and quality

- It is important for DNK that the change of contractor does not have a negative effect of the roll out, implementation and operation of Nødnett, says Tor Helge Lyngstøl. Motorola is already an experienced part of the Nødnett Project, and has together with NSN and DNK participated in the planning of the roll out of Nødnett.

The agreement between Motorola Solutions and NSN requires an approval from the Norwegian government.
